Years ago upcycling clothing was done in pretty much every household except perhaps the most wealthy. It is not only a great way to save money but can also be quite nice seeing your child wearing something that used to be yours.

There are a number of ways you can do upcycling. Some people like to use dresses that were used for special occasions such as weddings and make them in to outfits for their children such as christening gowns. But it’s not only special occasion clothing that can be upcycled, many every day items can be turned in to something new.

If you have any old shirts, have a look online for patterns and ideas of how you can transform them. It may be that you turn them in to a dress for your baby or a skirt and top for your toddler. You may even make a smaller shirt out of them for your young son. The options really are endless. You can really put your own stamp on your clothing by adding badges or stitching on patches to transform the look. You might just want to upcycle some of your own clothing such as putting some rips in your jeans or shortening a dress in to a top.
