Today we have more choice than ever when it comes to christening gowns. Things have come a long way from the traditional long white gowns although these are still very readily available for people that would rather stick to the traditional theme.

You may find it a bit daunting to have to choose the outfit with such a wide range on offer. You need to think about what outfit you like and also what will be comfortable and practical for the child. You may even consider getting them one outfit for the ceremony and another for afterwards if you are having a party or get together.

The colour is the first choice you may need to make. White is the traditional choice of colour as it signifies purity and new life in the Christian faith. In the Catholic faith, white is supposed to represent the first of the three white dresses a girl will wear. The first one being her christening, next is Holy Communion and finally her wedding dress.

Today the colour choice has been extended not only to ivory but also pastel shades of pink for baby girls and blue for a little boy. Always check with the person who is going to be carrying out the service that the child can wear another colour or if it has to be white.
