When you have your first child it’s all a learning curve. Buying shoes for your baby is an important step and should be done at the right time in the right way. When your baby is walking on their own outdoors, they should be given their first pair of shoes. Only put the shoes on when they go outside to protect their feet. The rest of the time it is ideal to leave them barefoot whilst they continue to learn to walk. Being barefoot will give them more sensation and help them to find balance and coordination more easily. Their feet will also be able to develop in a natural way. As babies bones are soft, putting shoes on all the time (especially ill-fitting ones) can potentially damage the growth and they won’t grow correctly. When it comes to purchasing the shoes, we strongly suggest you go to a proper shoe shop who will have qualified shoe fitters. They will be able to measure your child’s feet and make sure the correct shoe is bought. Shoes will normally start at a size 3 and usually a width between D-H.
